Kuching: Budget 2027 reflects the importance of investing in education, with increased funding for Chinese primary schools, higher schooling assistance and a historic annual allowance for Form Six students, said Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen.

Yii said the increased allocations demonstrated how sound economic management and responsible public spending could translate into tangible benefits for students and families, regardless of race or religion.

“Funding for Chinese primary schools has doubled from RM50 million in Budget 2025 to RM100 million in Budget 2027, supporting infrastructure improvements and maintenance.

“Meanwhile, Bantuan Awal Persekolahan (BAP) will increase from RM150 to RM200 per student, providing additional relief to parents facing rising living costs,” he said.

He added, a key highlight is the introduction of an RM2,500 annual allowance for each STPM student, together with the RM200 schooling assistance, eligible students will receive RM2,700 annually.

Yii described the initiative as a historic step that eases financial pressure while recognising STPM as an important pre-university pathway.

He also highlighted education access reforms, including automatic matriculation offers for all 6,717 applicants who scored 10As or more in the 2026/2027 session, and university placement arrangements for STPM science stream students achieving a perfect CGPA of 4.0.

While acknowledging that further improvements are needed, Yii said Budget 2027 showed how investment in education could support students, expand opportunities and ease the financial burden on families.

Ultimately, he stressed, responsible governance must deliver meaningful outcomes in classrooms and in the daily lives of Malaysians.
