Kuching: DAP Sarawak continues to stand with families facing difficult times, with Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, extending assistance to storm-affected households and a family still coping with the loss of a loved one.
Following heavy rain and strong winds that hit Kuching last Tuesday, several homes at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme were damaged, including those belonging to Mr Umar and Miss Natasha, whose roofs were blown off.
Kong said the urgent repair costs could place a heavy burden on B40 families, and provided financial assistance to help them repair their homes and prevent further damage.
“Even a small contribution can go a long way in helping families through difficult times,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kong has also fulfilled a longer-term commitment to the family of the late Japin Kemin, a 16-year-old SMK DPHA Gapor student who was among four people killed in a tragic accident along Jalan Teo Kui Seng–Stutong Baru last year.
Through the DAP Tertiary Education Assistance Fund, assistance was provided to Japin’s elder brother, Jain Kemin, who is pursuing an architecture course at UiTM.
Kong said the assistance was intended to ease the family’s financial burden while helping Jain continue his education and work towards a brighter future.
“No amount of help can replace the pain of losing a loved one, but we want the family to know that they are not alone,” he said.
He stressed that DAP Sarawak would continue to remain on the ground, listen to community concerns and extend assistance to those in need.
