Sibu: Sibu MP Oscar Ling Chai Yew has questioned the performance outcomes claimed under the Foreign Worker Transformation Approach (FWTA), calling for greater transparency and independent verification of the programme’s effectiveness.
Ling said while the government had stated that the FWTA had successfully reduced the processing time for foreign worker applications from 197 days to 61 days, no verifiable data or independent evaluation reports had been made publicly available to support the claim.
“Consequently, the public remains unable to objectively assess whether the reform has truly achieved its intended efficacy,” he said in a statement.
He called on the government to increase the transparency of the FWTA concession project by fully disclosing core contract terms, total contract value, profit-sharing mechanisms, and detailed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
“This will allow the public to understand how the outsourced public service operates, dispel societal concerns regarding outsourcing systems and rent-seeking, and boost public confidence in policy execution.
“While administrative reforms driven by the government deserve support, they must be built on a foundation of openness, transparency, reasonable pricing, and effective accountability,” Ling emphasised.
