Sibu: University students are urged to exercise their right to vote responsibly and stay informed about the country’s political developments, said Irene Wong Lee Ting, Special Assistant to Sibu MP Oscar Ling.
Wong cautioned students against compromising the integrity of democracy for “cash incentives,” emphasising that voting is the most important way for young people to demonstrate responsibility toward the nation’s future.
“The right to vote is precious and sacred. All citizens aged 18 should take it seriously and contribute actively to shaping the country’s future,” she said after representing DAP Sibu MP Oscar Ling’s Service Centre in distributing the “2025 First-Year University Entry Incentive” to 41 new university students across two sessions in Sibu, recently.
She said that YB Oscar Ling remains committed to encouraging outstanding university students in the Sibu constituency to pursue higher knowledge.
“In line with this commitment, he continues to award the incentives with the hope that students remain motivated in their studies, enhance their academic qualifications, and add value to their future careers.
“These incentives are limited to first-year university students only,” she said.
Wong added that the Ministry of Education under the Madani Government is actively implementing reforms, enabling a higher proportion of students to secure admission to their top three preferred university programs.
Meanwhile, she also highlighted the Madani Government’s people-oriented approach, noting that various welfare initiatives have been introduced to benefit the public.
“Eligible citizens who have not yet applied for these benefits are encouraged to visit the service centre to participate in the welfare programs,” she said.
