BINTULU: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak will contest 15 seats in the coming state election, aiming to strengthen its role as the main opposition force in the state, said party chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
Speaking at the DAP Sarawak Annual Convention 2025 in Bintulu today, Chong said the party’s focus would be on providing stronger checks and balances in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) rather than attempting to change the government.
“This will be a battle for a stronger voice for the people of Sarawak and a battle for more accountability from the government,” Chong said.
He added that if the number of DUN constituencies is increased from 82 to 99, DAP Sarawak would contest 18 seats.
Meanwhile, Chong said that at the last convention, delegates unanimously resolved that DAP Sarawak shall remain in opposition in the state, notwithstanding its cooperation with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the federal government.
“We shall contest more seats than the current two DUN seats held by DAP in the coming state election, and this shall be the direction of DAP Sarawak.
“From the outset, we wish to make it clear that the coming state election will not be a battle for a change of government,” he said.
