A deep pothole at the junction of Jalan Wenhong and Jalan Kuching-Bau has caused months of concern among motorists. Authorities are urged to act swiftly to repair the damaged stretch.

Kuching: The junction connecting Jalan Wenhong and Jalan Kuching-Bau has been in a deplorable condition for several months, raising safety concerns among motorists and residents in the area.

According to Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, the road surface at the junction has sunk considerably, creating a large pothole that poses a serious hazard to road users.

“Due to its close proximity to the main Kuching-Bau Road, many vehicles are unable to avoid it and end up driving into the pothole.

“This runs the risk of substantial damage to their vehicles and also endangering the safety of road users,” Kong said in a statement.

He described the situation as unacceptable, calling on the relevant authorities to immediately assess and carry out proper repair works at the site.

Kong also emphasised that temporary patching would not be sufficient to address the issue, adding that a comprehensive resurfacing and stabilisation of the road base is necessary to ensure long-term durability.

“This is especially crucial as many heavy machineries and industrial vehicles frequently use this route. Jalan Wenhong serves a semi-detached industrial park and houses our Fire Department,” he noted.

He further stressed that the high traffic volume and presence of heavy-duty vehicles make it essential for the road to be repaired properly to withstand long-term wear and tear.

“Proper repair works are vital to ensure the safety and accessibility of all who depend on this route,” he added.
