Kuching: Since 2023, DAP Stampin has been actively assisting various houses of worship in applying for funding from the Federal Government to upgrade and improve their facilities.
According to Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, the initiative aims to ensure that all religious institutions – including those not eligible for assistance under UNIFOR (Unit for Other Religions) – receive the support they need.
“UNIFOR has done commendable work in supporting religious institutions of different faiths in Sarawak. However, there are still churches and temples that fall outside its funding scope, such as those without approved plans from the Land and Survey Department,” he said.
To address this gap, the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), provides assistance under the Non-Islamic House of Worship (RIBI) programme.
Michael said that, through DAP Stampin’s proactive efforts and collaboration with the relevant ministries, more than RM1.6 million has been successfully secured and channelled to various churches and temples across Greater Kuching.
“The funds have been used to improve facilities, repair infrastructure, and support ongoing community and religious activities.
“This achievement reflects our commitment to ensuring that every house of worship, regardless of land status or documentation, has the opportunity to receive assistance to enhance its facilities and environment,” Michael added.
During the Monkey God’s birthday celebration at Tokong Thai Shin Kiung, Michael also presented a financial allocation of RM3,000 as a token of support for the temple’s community activities.
He reaffirmed that DAP Stampin will continue to work closely with houses of worship, community leaders, and the KPKT to ensure that local temples and churches continue to thrive as pillars of faith, unity, and social harmony within the community.
