Kuching: The case against Sim, a labourer who was charged under Section 44(1)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987 following a tragic accident in May 2023 that claimed the life of his three-year-old son, has been officially withdrawn.

Sim, the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes his unemployed wife and two young children, has expressed deep remorse over the accident.

The incident not only caused the heartbreaking loss of his youngest child but also left the family grappling with significant emotional and financial challenges.

Throughout the proceedings, authorities were informed of the family’s wish for the case to be discontinued, acknowledging the profound emotional toll on all involved.

After months of representations and appeals for compassion, the Deputy Public Prosecutor agreed to withdraw the charges.

Upon receiving the news, Sim and his family were overcome with relief.

Michael Kong Feng Nian, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, remarked that the case serves as a somber reminder of the importance of responsible driving, emphasising that while such tragedies cannot be undone, prevention is key.
