Sibu: The effort to raise health awareness among the public is not a one-off initiative, but a continuous agenda for the Sibu MP Service Centre.
According to Sibu MP, Oscar Ling Chai Yew, the free health screening programmes organised annually are part of a comprehensive approach to strengthen public health and bring essential health services closer to the community.
“We believe that the health of the people is the foundation of national prosperity. When citizens are healthy, productivity improves and, indirectly, the government can reduce healthcare spending,” he said.
Oscar Ling remarks during the health screening programme held at Ching Ang Methodist Church in the Sg. Sadit, Kwong Hua area, on the west bank of Sibu.
Services provided included pap smear tests, blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, and cholesterol screenings.
The programme was carried out with the support of the Sarawak Midwives Association (Persatuan Bidan Sarawak), whose professional involvement helped ensure the smooth running and effectiveness of the initiative.
Oscar Ling expressed his appreciation to the public, especially residents from the west bank of Sibu, for turning up in large numbers at a free health screening programme on 22 June 2025.
He noted that the overwhelming response from the local community reflects a growing awareness of the importance of health and wellness.
“This encouraging turnout shows that more and more people are taking health seriously. It’s a positive sign that our efforts to promote preventive care are gaining traction,” he said.
