Kuching: Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen has called on the Sarawak government to present proper feasibility studies for its proposed mega infrastructure projects.
Speaking during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting yesterday, Chong expressed concern over Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent announcement of plans to build a new international airport and a deep sea port in Kuching.
“There must be a proper feasibility study, and [it must be] presented in this DUN,” Chong insisted, citing a lack of transparency and clarity over the cost and planning of the projects.
He has voiced his objection to the state government for announcing such massive undertakings without detailed cost breakdowns and feasibility studies.
“Why [do] we object? Because we don’t know how much it costs.
“Our Premier just made the announcement. Billions and billions and billions will be allocated, but we don’t know how much the cost is,” he said when participating in the motion of appreciation to the Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s opening address.
