Kuching: “We’re ready to replace.” That was the blunt message from Soo Tien Ren, Special Assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, as he asserted that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak’s readiness to replace the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) in delivering the accountable, efficient governance the people deserve.
Soo emphasised that Sarawak’s people want clean, pragmatic, capable leaders who genuinely serve the public.
“True representatives of the people will not remain silent just because they lack power, and a responsible ruling party will not shift the blame to the opposition when in power,” he said in a statement.
His sharp response came following a statement by SUPP Pujut Branch’s Chong Kong Min, who recently criticised DAP’s Mas Gading MP, Mordi Bimol.
Soo stated that DAP Sarawak currently holds no administrative power and should not be expected to carry out executive responsibilities.
“It’s like a house catching fire, and instead of blaming the fire department, you blame the neighbor outside shouting for help – how ridiculous is that?” he asked.
He pointed out that the party in actual control of Sarawak’s administration is SUPP, and they should be actively serving the people, promoting development, and addressing issues.
“Mordi’s public ‘call-outs’ reflect the government departments’ neglect and disregard of opposition MPs. Such behavior not only disrespects elected representatives but also tramples on the will of the voters.
“If you can communicate effectively and respond actively, would we need to shout out publicly?” he asked.
He further noted that SUPP Pujut Branch’s criticism that DAP “has no real power” is essentially an admission that SUPP “has power but does nothing.”
He concluded by reaffirming DAP’s role is to provide checks and balances, to speak up for the people, expose problems, and push for government reform – this is the essence of democracy.
